  • 7/7/2020 $157 MILLION INVESTMENT TO ACCELERATE INTERNET MASTER PLAN ANNOUNCED

    Goals to reach:

    • 600,000 underserved New Yorkers
    • 200,000 residents in public housing
  • 11/2/2020 NYC COMPTROLLER STATES THERE ARE OVER 100,000 STUDENTS WITHOUT INTERNET ACCESS

  • 12/23/2020 NEW DEPUTY CTO AARON MEYERSON ANNOUNCED TO LEAD IMPLEMENTATION OF INTERNET MASTER PLAN

  • 3/3/2021 REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS ISSUED INVITING TELECOMMUNICATIONS INDUSTRY TO CREATE NEW AFFORDABLE BROADBAND SERVICE OPTIONS

    The city states it will make city assets including street poles available.

  • 3/4/2021 MAYOR & CTO ANNOUNCE PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP TO DELIVER WI-FI, BROADBAND UPGRADES TO CORNERSTONE COMMUNITY CENTERS

    (Over 12,000 students & adults to benefit)

  • 5/6/2021 NYC ANNOUNCES BROADBAND ACCESS FOR 13 NYCHA DEVELOPMENTS TO REACH 30,000 RESIDENTS

    (First activity under RFP with 5 Partner Vendors)

  • 7/27/2021 CITY ANNOUNCES BROADBAND ACCESS FOR 10,000 BRONX NYCHA RESIDENTS

    (2nd activity under RFP bringing total to 40,000 in progress)

  • 10/28/2021 CITY RELEASES STATEMENT CALLING INTO QUESTION HOW MUCH, IN ANY OF THE $157 MILLLION INVESTMENT ANNOUNCED 1/7/2020 HAS BEEN SPENT

    (Also announced are goals to reach 70,000 NYCHA residents and 150,000 non-NYCHA residents by early 2022 and a public broadband infrastructure plan to cover 1.6 million residents over 36 months)
